I got a text from the lady that I was supposed to babysit for that said, “Call me when you get a chance.” So at 1:45pm I called her. She answered and told me that she didn’t need me to babysit for her anymore. So I hung up the phone and asked my parents, “CAN I PLEASE GO TO MAYWOOD THIS WEEK??? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!” After a little persuading and jumping up and down in my seat, they agreed.
So after we got home from church around 1:50, I put some clothes in the washing machine, packed my suitcase, took a shower, loaded my stuff in the car, and drove to Maywood. I was praying on the way thanking God for giving me this opportunity and for continuing to show His goodness and power through my life. There’s not a doubt in my mind that He is the reason that I got to go to Maywood last week.
I was talking to my counselor and telling her all of that, and I told her, “Brooke, I feel like God allowed me to come this week for a bigger reason that just letting me be here at my favorite place. I may not know the reason now, but maybe after 10 or 20 years, I will know the reason. Or I may never even know the reason, but God knows what He’s doing.”
This past week, we talked about being “Centered” on Christ. Centering our lives, actions, words, friends, families, et cetera on Christ. I am so very thankful for the awesome lessons and Bible classes I got to sit through and listen in on. I am also so thankful for all of the new friends I made. When I got there Sunday, I had had conversations with a total of five people out of every one that was there. By the end of the week, I had met so many people and created so many friendships that I will forever cherish. I miss everyone already and can’t wait for first week next year!
If you ever get the opportunity to go be in the presence of God even if you don’t know anyone else there, do it. Because being in the presence of God with brothers and sisters in Christ is what makes Maywood Christian Camp so special. The back of the flyer says, “Because God is here.” Maywood is the center of God’s Universe and so special to so many people because God is there.
Step out on faith in God. The greatest things happen when you step out on faith in the Creator of everything, the One who knows the number of hairs on your head, the One and only One who knows the plans He has for you. Don’t be afraid. Trust in Him. Just like Peter had to step out on faith in Jesus to walk on water, I had to step out on faith in Him to go to Maywood not knowing many people. Always take opportunities where you must trust in Him. You will be stronger because of it, and you may not get that opportunity ever again.
Tony Brown’s week of Maywood is in five days counting today!!! I can’t wait to grow closer to my youth group and everyone else this upcoming week and learn how to Be the Good in the world! BOY DO I FEEL GREAT!!!
